One of DBAinc’s major corporate clients over the last 3 years has been the Coles Group. At a point in time when senior VMS / RDB skill are difficult to find in the market, DBAInc has provided senior technical skills within the technology space of VMS / RDB.
Client overview
The Coles group has large VMS / RDB installations covering both a large production environment and a large testing environment. These systems provide an application base for merchandising and warehouse systems within Food and Liquor group.
Requirement
As Coles embarked on a large transformation project one skill area that required bolstering was VMS. The brief DBAInc was given was to provide senior VMS consulting skills within the area of performance testing and tuning. As a result of the success of this engagement DBAInc where asked to provide more general VMS consulting skills to the point where DBAInc consulting provided the main resourcing to the VMS Legacy support group.
Solution/Services
DBAInc provide RDB consulting services in areas such as tuning / design / problem analysis and third level support and advice to the internal RDB group.
As well as providing RDB consulting services DBAInc resources also provide VMS architectural expertise to the internal VMS systems group. Services provided in this capacity include tuning, problem analysis, systems management, capacity planning, mentoring, and consulting to application architects.
Outcomes and business benefits
The Coles Group have benefited greatly as a result of the DBAInc consulting services, as the Coles Group have been able to adopt a much more flexible resource model within the VMS space with DBAInc providing the additional skills when required.
